NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety

Classroom Dates:

31st of August (Bank Holiday) to the 4th of September (NG1)

14th to the 23rd of September (NCC1)

Assessment dates:

The NG1 exam date will be confirmed by NEBOSH but this will be in the new open book format that can be taken at home or other suitable location, this replaces the previous invigilated paper-based examination.

The date of the classroom invigilated NCC1 exam will be on the 9th of December.

The NCC2 practical risk assessment application is also conducted in the workplace/home and is to be submitted within 10 days of the NCC1 exam, so the 19th of December.

Timings

Timings will be from 09:00 to @ 17:00 daily; a lunch break and a number of short refreshment breaks will be included throughout the day.

This qualification is designed for people working in construction, civil engineering, utilities, facilities, broadcasting, property management and more. It is particularly suitable for managers, supervisors, principal designers and principal contractors who require the right level of skills and know-how to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities.

For some, the National Construction Certificate can be a crucial first step towards establishing a lifelong professional career in the field of occupational health and safety within their chosen industry. Many who take the National Construction Certificate progress on to one of our Diploma level qualifications. Many health and safety diploma holders also want to take this qualification to broaden their knowledge of construction health and safety risks and controls.

What Does the Qualification Cover?

The qualification is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately:


  • Managing and controlling hazards in construction activities (NCC1)

  • Construction Health and Safety practical application (NCC2)

  • Management of health and safety (NG1)

Course Syllabus

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate course syllabus is made up of the following units:

Unit NG1 (theory): Management of Health and Safety

· Why we should manage workplace health and safety

· How health and safety management systems work and what they look like

· Managing risk – understanding people and processes

· Health and safety monitoring and measuring

Unit NCC1 (theory): Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities

  • Element 1: Construction law and management

  • Element 2: Construction site - hazards and risk control

  • Element 3: Vehicle and plant movement - hazards and risk control

  • Element 4: Musculoskeletal Hazards and risk control

  • Element 5: Work equipment - hazards and risk control

  • Element 6: Electrical safety

  • Element 7: Fire safety

  • Element 8: Chemical and biological health - hazards and risk control

  • Element 9: Physical and psychological health - hazards and risk control

  • Element 10: Working at height - hazards and risk control

  • Element 11: Excavation work and confined spaces - hazards and risk control

  • Element 12: Demolition and deconstruction - hazards and risk control

Assessments

This course is assessed by an open book theory exam (NG1), the exam will be conducted at home.

The NCC1 theory exam will be a classroom-based and invigilated closed book exam.

An NCC2 practical risk assessment assignment is to be produced based on findings in your own workplace, the practical must be submitted within 10 days of the last day of the NCC1 element.

NEBOSH Certificate courses are Level 3 qualifications which are equivalent to an A-Level. As such you will experience an intensive learning experience, so to assist, you should make sure that your diary is as clear as possible. You are advised to negotiate some ‘breathing space’ with your employer and family etc. in which to undertake your revision and to complete the assessments.

Certification

Those who successfully complete the course and pass the assessments are awarded the official NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety. Certificates are forwarded to the candidate by us approximately 16 weeks after completion of the course although results are usually issued within 12 weeks.

Unfortunately, as the classroom is located on the first floor and with no lift facility, delegates with certain physical impairments may find it access challenging.

Examination Postponement

We reserve the right to not enter any candidate for a NEBOSH exam due to poor attendance

If you are unable to attend a session, it is your responsibility to read the relevant chapters in the textbook.


We reserve the right to not enter any candidate for a NEBOSH exam due to poor mock exam results, this may be open for discussion with individual candidates depending on their abilities and commitment and a new proposed date for sitting the exam can be agreed upon.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however, it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

Lunch and Refreshments

Delegates can bring their own food and drinks with them should they choose to do so, there is also a shared kitchen on the premises with a microwave oven and refrigerator. A ‘snack van’ visits the centre each morning and a co-operative store is also sited within walking distance. Refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits etc. will be provided throughout the course.
