NEBOSH's National General Certificate qualification gives a good foundation in health and safety for managers, supervisors and staff with health and safety among their day to day responsibilities.
This qualification is widely taken as the first step towards a career in health and safety and is accepted by IOSH – the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health – in meeting the academic requirements for Technical Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH).

This qualification provides the underpinning knowledge required by people with fire safety responsibilities at work. It is particularly relevant for those who contribute to or review fire risk assessments within low to medium risk workplaces.
For many who already have responsibility for other compliance issues, such as health and safety or environmental management, gaining specialist knowledge of fire safety can further expand their capabilities and help bring success and advancement to their career. The same applies to others in general management positions in the workplace.
What Does the Qualification Cover?
With an in-depth focus on the things that matter, the NEBOSH National General Certificate covers:

· The UK’s key legal requirements
The qualification is divided into two units, each of which is assessed separately:
NG1 - Management of Health and Safety
NG2 - Controlling workplace hazards practical application
Course Syllabus
Unit NG1 (theory): Management of Health and Safety
· Why we should manage workplace health and safety
· How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
· Managing risk – understanding people and processes
· Health and safety monitoring and measuring
Unit NG2 (theory): Controlling Workplace Hazards

· Musculoskeletal health
· Chemical and biological agents
· General workplace issues
· Work equipment
· Fire
· Electricity
Unit NG2 Practical Application
Unit NG2 is a risk assessment based practical application which is conducted in your own workplace (or another suitable workplace) and should take approximately 3-hours to complete.
Assessments
This course is assessed by an open book exam (NG1) and a workplace risk assessment practical assignment with a report (NG2).
The exam will be conducted at home and the practical in your own workplace, the practical must be submitted within 10 days of the last day of the NG2 element.
NEBOSH Certificate courses are Level 3 qualifications which is equivalent to an A-Level. As such you will experience an intensive learning experience, so to assist, you should make sure that your diary is as clear as possible. You are advised to negotiate some ‘breathing space’ with your employer and family etc. in which to undertake your revision and to complete the assessments.
Certification
Those who successfully complete the course and pass the assessments are awarded the official NEBOSH National Certificate in in Occupational Health and Safety. Certificates are forwarded to the candidate by us approximately 16 weeks after completion of the course although results are usually issued within 12 weeks.

Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however, it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
